Submitted by brenda.johnson on

Dr. Cutler, a representative from Discovery Gateway, recently visited the fifth-grade students at Brockbank Elementary. The students enjoyed a fun science lesson on chemical and physical changes. After a demostration from Dr. Cutler, the students were then able to conduct their own chemical reations. It was a very fun way to learn!

Brockbank Students Enjoy Marvin & Jessie Assembly

Submitted by brenda.johnson on

Brockbank faculty recently put on a Marvin & Jessie assembly for the students on the topic of responsibility. Marvin and Jessie is a character education program where two "students" (Mr. Ryan Murray and Mrs. Kristel Peterson) experience difficulties and how they overcome them. Other teachers on staff take turns in the plays as supporting characters. The students enjoy these plays because they get to see their teachers acting like students on the stage and they can relate to the dilemmas Marvin and Jessie experience.

Brockbank Students Benefit from Peer Tutoring

Robert Heward, pictured with Savanah Clark, is one of several kindergarten students who benefits every day from being paired with a sixth grade student for peer tutoring. Brockbank has successfully ran a peer tutoring program for several years. Sixth grade tutors undergo training with our literacy specialist on the basics of emerging reading skills and then are paired with a kindergarten buddy. Both kindergarten and sixth grade students enjoy forming new friendships and learning new skills together.

Brockbank Fifth-Graders Show Off Their Homemade Stitchery Pictures

Submitted by brenda.johnson on

Brockbank fifth-grade students from Mrs. Alexandra Dedrickson's class had a great time making Christmas presents for their parents or grandparents. Each student made a hand-stitched Christmas picture that took many hours of hard work. The students were so excited that many students asked to make a second or even third hand-stitched picture!

Brockbank Third-Graders Help Kindergarten Students

Submitted by brenda.johnson on

Third-grade students in Mrs. Carolyn Creer's class, once a week, go into Mrs. Tara Farr's kindergarten class and help the students. Each kindergarten student gets a third-grade buddy to work with, whether it be reading to each other, practicing flash cards, or just helping the student with whatever they are working on. Whenever there is a holiday, or at least once a month, the students get to do a fun activity together. On December 21, they got to make Christmas trees made out of ice cream cones, covered with frosting, and decorated with candy.
