Brockbank First Graders Read the Book, "Enemy Pie"

Submitted by brenda.johnson on

Brockbank first-graders read the book, "Enemy Pie" written by Derek Munson about a boy whose summer is ruined when Jeremy Ross moves in and becomes number one on the enemy list. Fortunately, for the boy his father has a secret recipe for a pie that is guaranteed to help get rid of enemies. While his Dad works on mixing the ingredients and baking the pie, he explains that his son's role in the plan is that he needs to spend a day with his enemy. Even worse, he has to be nice to him. It sounds tough, but the boy decides to give it a try.

Brockbank Sixth-Graders Share World Country Reports!

Submitted by brenda.johnson on
To go along with the sixth-grade world history curriculum, students chose a country that they wanted to learn more about and do a report on. Each student researched pictures and interesting facts about his/her assigned country. Each student made a visual display representing their country.  Some presented on a poster, some dressed up in clothes typical of their country, and some brought artifacts.  All students shared facts about their country at their sixth-grade graduation for family and friends to see.

Brockbank's PTA is the best! To help celebrate "Teacher Appreciation Week", Monday morning in the faculty room there was a "Happy Trails" table set up with all kinds of trail mix treats. The theme for the week was, "Our Staff Makes Us Happy Campers!". Fun posters and decorations filled the halls. All during the week teachers and staff were spoiled with gifts and delicious meals.  A huge thanks to our wonderful PTA and especially to Kristi Colledge, who coordinated the week's activities. We love our PTA!!

The sixth-graders at Brockbank  participated in a checkbook activity that was a great learning experience. Students were given their own checkbook and register. They received paychecks every week based on their spelling test and math assignment scores. Students were required to pay rent, utilities, taxes, and any other fees they had acquired throughout the week. This activity gave students a better understanding of decimal number sense as well as have a sneak peak of what it feels like to have to pay rent and taxes.
