Brockbank Students Excel at the Utah State Debate Tournament

On April 29, 2011, six Brockbank students represented their school in the Utah State Elementary Debate Tournament.  All year, students worked in partnerships and have prepared arguments for either for the affirmative or for the negative.  All elementary students statewide receive the same topic.  This year, the topic was, "Resolved:  The State of Utah should require all state government buildings to have a renewable energy source as a significant part of their total energy use."  Hailey Hullinger and McKenzie Oyler took 5th place overall and Cassady Gappmayer and Nicole Noorda took 6th place overall, both arguing for the negative.  Annabelle Beck and Cassidy Bona argued for the affirmative.  Annabelle and Cassidy received Superior ratings which mean they placed in the top 10, although they did not place specifically. These six students represented a much larger school group who debated earlier in the year at the district debate tournament.  A huge thank you to the faculty advisor, Mrs. Kristel Peterson, who worked endless hours preparing the students.
