BYU Mascot Cosmo Visits Brockbank

Wednesday, September 24, BYU athletes along with Cosmo came to Brockbank to talk to fourth-graders about staying away from drugs. The athletes told students, "The Buff, Don't Puff!" They encouraged each of them to stay away from cigarettes and drugs. Each of the students were given a t-shirt with "Cougar Strong" to symbolize staying strong and to not do drugs.

Brockbank Acknowledges Attendance Awareness Month!

Brockbank is joining in with the Nebo School District's participation in the national campaign to celebrate September as Attendance Awareness Month! Posters are hung in the halls reminding parents and students the importance of attending school each and every day and getting to school on time. Good attendance is important for students to do well in school.  

Brockbank PTA Hosts "Popcorn Friday" to Celebrate School Spirit

September 19 Brockbank's PTA celebrated school spirit by having  "Popcorn Friday" PTA parents sold popcorn during lunch recess to students for 50 cents a bag.  Popcorn Friday's are new this year and will continue through out the school year not every Friday, but about once a month they will be selling popcorn out at lunch recess.  Just a fun way to celebrate school spirit and Fridays.  We encourage students to wear school colors on Friday, either a school t-shirt or any shirt that is mainly navy blue or maroon.  Thanks to our fun PTA parents who are promo

Brockbank First Graders Learn About Friendship by Reading the Book, "Enemy Pie"

Brockbank first-graders read the book, "Enemy Pie" written by Derek Munson about a boy whose summer is ruined when Jeremy Ross moves in and becomes number one on the enemy list. Fortunately, for the boy his father has a secret recipe for a pie that is guaranteed to help get rid of enemies. While his Dad works on mixing the ingredients and baking the pie, he explains that his son's role in the plan is that he needs to spend a day with his enemy. Even worse, he has to be nice to him. It sounds tough, but the boy decides to give it a try.

Principal Hansen Reads to Kindergarteners!

One of Principal Alison Hansen's favorite things she does at the beginning of each school year is going into the classrooms and reading to the students and visiting with them. After reading the book, "The Day the Crayons Quit", Principal Hansen explains the school policies and rules to the students and answers questions. The students really enjoy having a book read to them by "their" principal. 

Brockbank Fourth Graders Enjoy Living Planet Aquarium Outreach Program

Friday, August 29, Brockbank had two representatives, Kirsten Berezay and Baromwyn Maier,  from the Utah Water Van program come to visit. The Utah Water Van is an educational outreach program about Utah's wetlands and is offered by The Living Planet Aquarium to fourth-grade students throughout Utah. Fourth-grade students are allowed through the use of models, to see and better understand the importance of Utah's wetlands and about some of Utah's native wetland plants and animals.

Brockbank Teacher Does the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

As a reward for good behavior and also for a good cause, Mr. Greg Hunt, a third grade teacher at Brockbank did the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge with the help of some of his third graders. He was challenged by his cousin and thought it would be fun to involve his class. The students enjoyed watching their teacher get ice water dumped on him. 

Brockbank Receives Generous Donation of School Supplies!

Brockbank School sincerely appreciates the generous donation of school supplies from JCPenney Logistics (the catalog portion of JCPenney).  They are housed here in Spanish Fork and wanted to help out a local school.  The employees have been working all month to donate school supplies.  At the end of the month, they held a drawing and employee Raelyn Mulder was drawn out.  As the winner, she got to select which Spanish Fork area school she would like the donations to go to.  Her good friend had children recently attend Brockbank and had such a good  experi

Brockbank Sixth-Graders Earned Sonic Drink!

The sixth-graders at Brockbank  participated in a checkbook activity that was a great learning experience. Students were given their own checkbook and register. They received paychecks every week based on their spelling test and math assignment scores. Students were required to pay rent, utilities, taxes, and any other fees they had acquired throughout the week. This activity gave students a better understanding of decimal number sense as well as have a sneak peak of what it feels like to have to pay rent and taxes.

Brockbank Second Graders Enjoyed Learning About Rocks!

Brockbank second graders in Mrs. Laurel Koyle's class studied rocks. The students used magnifying glasses like scientists to characterize the rocks into texture, color, and shapes. Then according to their characterizations the students sorted and grouped the rocks. Students really enjoyed learning all about rocks!
