Tuesday, October 18, the kindergarten students at Brockbank Elementary spent the day at Cornbelly's Corn Maze at Thanksgiving Point. They enjoyed participating in educational activities learning about farming and agriculture. They especially enjoyed the hayride. Brockbank kindergarten students really appreciate the Herbst family for allowing them to come and enjoy the day!
Recently sixth-grade students from Brockbank Elementary had the opportunity to visit the BYU Planetarium. Before they went into the planetarium, students enjoyed experimenting with the demonstrations and gadgets that are throughout the lobby of the Eyring Science Center. During the presentation at the planetarium,the sixth-grade students were amazed and intrigued by the information they were given and the different objects that they were shown in the night sky.
Brockbank third graders were thrilled to receive dictionaries donated by Central Bank recently. Glen Roach is a part of the Spanish Fork Rotary Club. The Rotary Club has a goal of placing a dictionary in the hands of every third grade student. Each student put his/her name in the dictionary and is encouraged to use it during classwork and also at home. Mr. Roach has sponsored Brockbank Elementary for several years and we appreciate his continued support of our students. Third graders look forward every year to his visit and the dictionaries he brings.
We are excited about our upcoming Book Fair which will begin on Monday, October 24th! This year our fair will be online as well. This means you can have family and friends click on this link below and place an order from the scholastic store. The books will be delivered to the school about a week after the fair closes. This is a great way to get for grandparents & other family to help support our book fair & get their Christmas shopping done early! The online book fair will be open from October 16th - November 5th.
To continue with Red Ribbon Week, Thursday, October 13, was "Living Drug Free is No sweat". Students and faculty wore sweats. As an activity each class created a banner with a drug free theme and at the end of the day there was a drug-free banner parade. Everyone went outside and two students for each class carried their classes banner around the school. Judges voted and picked out the four top banners. All of the classes did a great job! It was very hard to pick but the winners were; first place went to Mrs.
Wednesday, October 12, for Red Ribbon Week students wore purple to represent that, "Brockbank Students Stand United Against Violence". Teachers reinforced the importance to students of being violence free. At the end of the day Principal Alison Hansen drew two names of students wearing purple and they each won a gift bag donated by Terry and Louise Crook from Chick-fil-A. Thanks to kindness of not only Mr.and Mrs.
Red Ribbon Week continues at Brockbank. On Tuesday, October 11, it was "Play Hard, Play Clean!" The students had the opportunity of dressing up in their favorite activity or sports uniform. The students learned how important it is to remember to stay healthy and stay active, physically and mentally. A healthy mind is less likely to take drugs! For a fun activity high school athletes from various sports came to Brockbank during their lunch hour to play with students. A lot of the high school students attended elementary school at Brockbank and have sibblings at Brockbank.
October 10-14 2011 is Red Ribbon Week at Brockbank Elementary. Many exciting events have been planned for the week. Monday, Oct. 10, was "Join Hands to Take a Stand Against Drugs!" The students were encouraged to wear red and were given a red wristband to wear and pledge to stay drug free.
Congratulations to Brockbank's Foster Grandmas, Marie Hansen, Earline Holley, and Ruth Dahl! They were all recently honored by the Utah County Foster Grandparents for outstanding years of service. Marie Hansen is a foster grandma in Mrs. Marcy Noorda's first-grade class and was recently honored for 18 years of service. Earline Holley is a foster grandma in Mrs. Amberly Kariuki's kindergarten class and was honored for 10 years of service. Foster Grandma Ruth Dahl is in Mrs. Tara Farr's kindergarten class and was honored for 3 years of service.
