Brockbank Sixth-Graders Enjoy Serving on Student Council Committees

Submitted by brenda.johnson on
Our sixth grade students love the opportunity of serving on student council. Each year, every student that wants to can participate in student council. There are five committees - Literacy Committee, School Spirit Committee, Food Drive Committee, Kid Power Committee, and Character Education Committee. Students name the top 3 committees they'd like to serve on, then 6th grade teachers divide up the students accordingly. Each committee elects a president and vice president and these ten students participate in the Student Council Leadership Conference at BYU each Fall. Each committee has several responsibilities throughout the year and all students who participate have an enjoyable time. "It's really fun," said council member Noah Runolfson. "I like working on a team and doing things together for the school as a team." On Wednesdays, the school spirit committee sells "smencils" for $1.00 before school and during lunch recess. "Smencils" are pencils that have a fun smell - cinnamon, peppermint, chocolate, raspberry, etc.
