Brockbank first-graders recently read the book, "In Lucia’s Neighborhood" by Pat Shewchuk. In the book a seven year old little girl, Lucia, takes a closer look at her neighborhood. Brockbank first-graders talked about what is in their neighborhood. The fire station is just a few blocks away in Brockbank's neighborhood. Students walked there to see what a fire station is like. Fireman Pat Sorensen gave the students a tour of the stationfire engines, and talked to them about firesafety. First grade teacher, Mrs. EmmaLee Stewart tried on the firefighter's suit that a fireman wears to fires and told the students that if there ever was a fire in their house that it is really important not to be afraid and hide under the bed. Firemen are their friends and are there to help them.
