Student Council

Brockbank's Student Leadership Team was able to attend a leadership conference at BYU. Hadley Chandler and Owen Andersen wrote about their experience.

"At the BYU Leadership Conference on October 8, we learned how we can make it a better school year.

The first speaker was Magic Brad and he said, "The kids in your school that are easier to tease need teasing the least. The kids who get loved need to share the love". He also said, "Stupid is as stupid does." Which means if you say stupid it is stupid. "Words are more powerful than your actions."

The next speaker was Mr. Rad. He taught us clear communications. First clear communication expresses feelings, second it lets you know your limits, third it leaves no confusion. He then told us several quotes, one of which was a  sentence from Anne Franks' journal and it said, " In spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart."

The next speaker was Meg Johnson and she talked about being your full dollars worth, she said, " Life can be very hard, life can make you feel like a crumbled, spit on, stepped on dollar."  Then she told us something that Albert Einstein said, "A person starts to live when he/she can do something by themselves" A quote from Mark Twain, "I can live for two months on a good compliment."

The next speaker was John Bytheway and he talked about how everyone has a prize inside, even if it doesn't show up right away.  It will show up at one point. He also taught us not to judge a book by its cover. Something he told us in a book that he had written was, "It's better to be respected than popular. Popularity ends on yearbook day but respect lasts forever." A couple of other quotes were, "A  ship in a harbor is safe, but that is not what they were made for." "There is more treasure in a book than all the pirates loot on treasure island."

We are so grateful our student council had the opportunity to attend this conference!

And we will definitely have the most incredible school year!
