Brockbank Elementary School is proud to honor Sherry Plaisted as the Daily Herald Educator of the Week.

Mrs. Plaisted is currently the intern facilitator at Brockbank Elementary School. Her tremendous work not only at Brockbank, but at many schools, has helped countless children progress academically. As facilitator, Mrs. Plaisted has supported many new teachers with her remarkable expertise and valuable teaching skills.

Mrs. Plaisted graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from Brigham Young University in 1977. She then taught special education at Dixon Junior High School, in Provo, for two years. She then moved to Payson Junior High School for one year before moving to California in 1980. She and her husband, John, settled in the Sacramento area where she raised her young family before going back to work in 1987 for eight years at Manteca Unified School District.

Mrs. Plaisted went back to school to earn her master’s degree in reading from Stanislaus State, Merced, California, in 1989. In 1995, she and John moved to San Antonio, Texas, where she also taught for seven years.

In 2004, Nebo School District was fortunate enough to have Mrs. Plaisted return and continue working with students and new teachers as an instructional coach, and now in her present position as intern facilitator.

Mrs. Plaisted is passionate about learning and especially reading. She does an amazing job organizing our reading tutoring program, analyzing data and student work, then teaching strategies to students that help them succeed. She lives for that moment when the light clicks on for students!

Mrs. Plasited is patient, kind and knows how to push students to excel. As an intern facilitator, she is able to figure out in a heartbeat what new teachers need to do to fix or manage a situation. She expects the very best from new teachers and is always there to support them every step of their year-teaching experience. Mrs. Plaisted is a valuable resource for our entire staff and teachers refer to her often. Best of all, Mrs. Plaisted loves her work and it shows in the genuine effort that she puts forth each day at Brockbank. The faculty and staff love her, respect her, and look to her for guidance in every aspect of our wonderful profession. Mrs. Plasited was honored with Nebo School District’s PEAK Award-2017-18.

Sherry and her husband John are the proud parents of five wonderful children and nine grandchildren. They reside in Springville, Utah.
