Brockbank is excited to try something new this year. We are participating in a new character ed program called BFF Groups. We are excited to introduce these new family groups to Brockbank! We will be working together to create unity in our school! BFF stands for "Brockbank Family Friends" and our pledge is "We Stand Up for Our Friends!" It is exciting to see students making friends with students from different grade levels and to see the "big buddies" go pick up the "little buddies" to go to their groups.

Brockbank Fifth-Graders Enjoy D.A.R.E.!

Submitted by brenda.johnson on

Brockbank fifth-grade students as part of their D.A.R.E. program taught by Officer Bryan DeWitt have been learning several lessons about drugs and ways to avoid the many influences in their lives that might lead them down dangerous paths. One of the fun activities fifth-graders got to do was to see Officer DeWitt's patrol car and see all the equipment that he uses to do his job. He showed them how some of it works and how he uses it in his job. Students have really learned a lot this year and are looking forward to graduating from D.A.R.E.

Recently the entire sixth-grade participated in a Battle of the Greek Gods. This was an all-day activity at Swenson park where the students rotated and participated in many team-building activities. Each rotation included a task that required students to use strategies and work together to solve a problem. Brockbank sixth-grade teachers and students want to thank all the parents for their support and help! The students could not have had such a great experience without them!

Submitted by brenda.johnson on

Brockbank first-graders read the book, "Enemy Pie" written by Derek Munson about a boy whose summer is ruined when Jeremy Ross moves in and becomes number one on the enemy list. Fortunately, for the boy his father has a secret recipe for a pie that is guaranteed to help get rid of enemies. While his Dad works on mixing the ingredients and baking the pie, he explains that his son's role in the plan is that he needs to spend a day with his enemy. Even worse, he has to be nice to him. It sounds tough, but the boy decides to give it a try.
