Brockbank Elementary collected "Pennies" for Shriner's Hospital by bringing in $824.53. Every penny raised will go to help Shriner's Hospital to help make a difference in a child's life. Shriner's provides specialized care to children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate, regardless of the patients’ ability to pay.  The "Kid Power" sixth-grade student council members along with their adviser, Mrs. Terri Jensen wanted to teach the students that " kids can make a difference in the world". The students were encouraged to donate their quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. The object was not to go door-to-door and solicit money from family or neighbors but for students to bring in their own pocket change that they could earn by doing chores at home and then donating it to a worthy cause. To make it interesting a school wide competition was held and the winning classes were first place-Mrs. Alexandra Dedrickson's fifth grade-class, second place - Mrs. JaNae Wilson's sixth-grade class and third place - Miss Stephanie Benson's fifth-grade class.
