Brockbank First Graders Visit Fire Station

Brockbank first-graders recently read the book, "In Lucia’s Neighborhood" by Pat Shewchuk. In the book a seven year old little girl, Lucia, takes a closer look at her neighborhood. Brockbank first-graders talked about what is in their neighborhood. The fire station is just a few blocks away in Brockbank's neighborhood. Students walked there to see what a fire station is like. Fireman Pat Sorensen gave the students a tour of the station, fire engines, and talked to them about fire safety. First grade teachers, Mrs. Lisa Bird and Mrs.

Brockbank's Book Fair is Coming Soon!

Brockbank is excited about our upcoming Book Fair which will kick off this Friday, October 18 with our annual Dad's and Donuts! Make sure to bring your dad, mom, grandpa, grandma or any special family member on Friday morning from 8 - 8:40 AM to browse through the book fair and enjoy donuts and milk. The book fair will run the following week Oct. 21 - 24 before school, during lunch, and after school and all evening Thursday night during SEP conferences. The book fair will close Thursday evening.

Brockbank Red Ribbon Week "United We Stand Against Drugs!"

October 14 - 18, 2013 is Red Ribbon Week at Brockbank Elementary. Many exciting events have been planned for the week. Monday, Oct. 14, was "United We Stand Against Drugs!" The students were given a red  bracelet to wear all week and pledge to stay drug free. Daily prizes will be given but to be included in the drawings the student has to have their bracelet on. Students also made posters in their classrooms that will be hung in the lunchroom pledging to be drug free.

Mr. Doug Osmond Visits Brockbank

Recently, Brockbank Elementary students grades third thru sixth participated in an assembly featuring the popular fiction series of Michael Vey written by bestselling author Richard Paul Evans. In conjunction with the Books Rock! Tour, Mr. Evans’ friend and educational partner Doug Osmond visited with students to not only promote literacy but to share skills in how to succeed in life. Mr. Osmond shared the following principles of success with the students:
1. First: shut off the TV, including video games.
2. Second: Read, read, read, read. “Readers are the leaders!”

Brockbank Fourth Graders Visit This Is The Place Heritage Park!

Tuesday, October 8, Brockbank fourth-graders went on a field trip to, This Is The Place Heritage Park. There students were able to take part in a ‘hands-on learning’ experience that complements the state curriculum for fourth-grade Utah History. Students participated in "life in Pioneer Times" which consisted of pushing a handcart. The students discovered what it was like to come West with a handcart.

Brockbank Kindergarteners Enjoy Field Trip to Cornbelly's!

Friday, October 4, the kindergarten students at Brockbank Elementary spent the day at Cornbelly's Corn Maze at Thanksgiving Point. They enjoyed participating in educational activities learning about farming and agriculture. Each of the students got a small pumpkin to bring back with them. It was a cold day but the students had a great time anyway! Brockbank kindergarten students really appreciate Brett and Nikki Herbst for allowing them to come and enjoy the day!

Brockbank Elementary Loves Box Tops for Education!

Box Tops for Education is one of the nation’s largest school fundraising loyalty programs and has been helping schools succeed since 1996. Brockbank's PTA collects box tops for our school. Last year Brockbank families brought in over $900 in box tops that the school was able to buy new PE equipment. This year we are earning money for track meet buckets so that each grade level 3-6 will have their own equipment; stops watches, balls, etc.

Brockbank Elementary Has Wonderful Parent Volunteers!

Brockbank Elementary is excited for a great school year, but we can't do it alone. Brockbank is lucky to have great parent volunteers that are willing to come and help in the classrooms. Recently the PTA held a room parent meeting where parent volunteers came in and met with teachers to help plan for the fun school year.

Brockbank Kindergarteners Enjoy Apple Day!

Friday, Sept. 27, Kindergarten students at Brockbank Elementary celebrated Apple Day at school. The students participated in several different activities including tasting apples in several different forms; cut in slices, applesauce, pie, and juice; deciding which color of apple they like best, doing math and science activities involving apples, and illustrating their own apple books. It was a fun educational day that the students enjoyed.
