Brockbank is excited to try something new this year. We are participating in a new character ed program called BFF Groups. We are excited to introduce these new family groups to Brockbank! We will be working together to create unity in our school! BFF stands for "Brockbank Family Friends" and our pledge is "We Stand Up for Our Friends!" It is exciting to see students making friends with students from different grade levels and to see the "big buddies" go pick up the "little buddies" to go to their groups.
The groups meet once a month and cover a different situation that students might encounter at school or in life. This month students learned how mean words and actions can affect a students feelings. The students sat in a group and were introduced to a new student (a red paper silhouette of a student), Mr. Red. The students were asked what kind of things they had heard others say that might tear someone down and make them feel badly. Each time they said something hurtful they would tear of a piece off the silhouette. Then the students were asked to come up with ideas of how to build Mr. Red back up after tearing him down. They wrote their ideas on masking tape and taped the pieces back together. Students learned that even after all the nice comments, apologies, and kind words, Mr. Red would never be exactly the same, even though he had received repairs his feelings were hurt and the scars would remain. Students were given several scenarios and worked together to find the best solution to deal with each situation.
