Brockbank's staff spotlights this week are Mrs. Marcy Noorda and Mrs. Karen Swenson. Mrs. Marcy Noorda is a first grade teacher here at Brockbank. She and her husband live in Springville and have one son and three daughters. Marcy likes reading, shopping, camping, going on vacations where she can lay on the beach so it is not surprising her favorite vacation destination is Newport, California. Some of her other favorites are the colors pink and purple, diet coke, peanut butter M&M's, Taylor Swift, and she says she is a "Law and Order" junky. She likes eating at Chili's, and watching baseball, her team is the New York Yankees. Marcy has taught first grade at Brockbank for the past 6 years. When asked something no one knows about her she didn't have an answer, but everyone might not know that in 2010 Marcy was featured by KSL as "Zions Bank Teacher Feature" for helping make a new student in her class feel welcome in a unique way, and that Marcy won the 2011-12 Horace Mann Crystal Apple Award. Marcy is terrific teacher and Brockbank is lucky to have her! Mrs. Karen Swenson is the secretary here at Brockbank. She and her husband live in Spanish Fork and have four sons and seven grandchildren. Karen likes golfing, gardening. traveling, and spending time with her grandkids. Some of her favorites are the color black, all kinds of music (except rap and opera), coke, candy- anything chocolate (especially dark chocolate), suspense movies, and eating at Five Alls Restaurant (fine dining in a romantic, Old-English atmosphere overlooking the valley). Her favorite vacation destination is to Hawaii! Something no one knows about her is that she was "Miss Benjamin" and an attendant to "Miss Utah County". Karen has been Brockbank's secretary for the past 15 years before that she worked at Geneva Steel's computer help desk for 10 years and before that a secretary for Nebo School District office for 12 years! Karen is a great secretary and friend to everyone, (teachers, students, and parents alike). She keeps our school running not only is she a secretary but sometimes she is a nurse (she has bandaged a million scraped knees and elbows, took care of lots of sick kids, and wrapped a few broken bones until mom or dad could get there), she has even been a seamstress (she staples a mean pair of pants), and so much more. Karen makes sure that everyone that walks in the office feels welcome!
