Brockbank Second Graders Learn About Stranger Danger

Submitted by brenda.johnson on

Tuesday, August 28, Brockbank second graders had a special visitor come to school and talk to them about "Stranger Danger". Officer Bryan DeWitt from the Spanish Fork Police Department talked to the students about being safe and what to do in certain situations that they may have to deal with. For example, if they are home alone they should never answer the door or the phone or if they are lost they should find an adult or call for help. He told them there were certain situations when it was okay to call 911. He told the students they should know
their name, address, and phone number. Use the buddy system – avoid walking anywhere alone. Trust their instincts – if they feel they are being followed or something is not right, they should find help immediately. If a stranger approaches them, they do not have to speak to him or her. Never approach a stranger in a motor vehicle, just keep walking. Do not accept candy or any other items from a stranger. Never walk off with a stranger no matter what he or she tells them. If someone is following them they should try to remember the license plate of his or her vehicle and immediately tell a trusted adult. If a
stranger grabs them, do everything you can to stop him or her from pulling you away or dragging you into his or her car. Drop to the ground, kick, hit, bite, and scream. Do whatever it takes to attract the attention of others who can help you. If someone is dragging you away, scream, "this is not my dad," or "this is not my mom." Officer DeWitt taught the students many valuable lessons in what to do to stay safe!
