Brockbank Debate Team Excels at District Tournament

Brockbank fifth and sixth-graders have been working hard the last few months preparing for the district debate tournament. Under the direction of Mrs. Kristel Peterson, students spent hours researching, dividing into affirmative and negative teams, and preparing oral arguments. At the district tournament out of approximately 100 overall students Brockbank students did extremely well with all their teams placing in the top 10. Students debated in teams of two, overall winners are in pairs. Ten total teams go on to state and Brockbank students make up four of those teams. On the negative side going to state in 2nd place is Emmalyse Beecher and Kynslie Farr, 3rd place is Aeris Eastland and Isaac Bryson Kate Ethington and Timber Cote get to go to state as alternates. On the affirmative side going to state in 3rd place is Peyton Thorpe and George Heywood, and 5th place is Seth Argyle and Angel Garcia.  Individual speaker awards for composed and articulate speaking went to Peyton Thorpe, George Heywood, Seth Argyle, Angel Garcia, Ethan Benson, Emmalyse Beecher, Kynslie Farr, Aeris Eastland, Isaac Bryson, Kate Ethington, Rio Ochoa, and Macady Tanner. Valeria Marquez took 1st place and Aeris Eastland took 3rd in Individual Oratory.
