Hello, Brockbank Families!

It’s hard to believe that we are into February!  Friday, the Groundhog saw his shadow, so we may be in for 6 more weeks of winter!

Science Fair: The Science Fair takes place tomorrow, Tuesday, February 6th and is open to all Brockbank 5th and 6th graders. The fair will be open to parents and students from 10:00 -11:00 and 12:30 - 1:30.  Judging for those wishing to advance to the district level will begin at 9:30. Students should follow the guidelines they received from their teacher during SEP's. If there are any parents that can assist with judging, please contact your student's teacher for details.

Penny Wars:  Feb 20 – March 9
KIDS have the power to make a positive difference.  Please join the Kid Power committee at Brockbank Elementary to change the world.  Our project this year is to help the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.  This is the type that mostly affects children.  There are children in our school that deal with this disease.
Each grade will bring money to donate. All paper and silver coins in their cans will count for that grades total.  All the pennies put in that grade level can, will subtract from their total.  So put pennies in another classes can to stop them from beating your grade.  Put the silver and paper money in your class can to increase your total.  This is called a Penny War.  Our penny war will help find a cure for juvenile Diabetes.
We will start our project on February 20th and go through March 9th.  The grade level with the heaviest can on Feb 23 will get to have a dance party.  The grade level with the heaviest can on March 2 will get to run someone through their whip cream gauntlet.  The grade level that raises the most money by March 9 will get to have a flour bomb war.  This war is for good and we will have a lot of fun.  Start earning money to make a difference.

FYI:  I want to let you know that we recently had a “shelter in place” drill.  This type of drill is for us to practice in case there were to be some sort of leak that would be hazardous to our air quality.   I want you to be aware that we try to practice a safety drill once a month.

Math Lab:  Just a reminder that we have our Math Lab opened in the mornings before school, at 8:30.  Any student is welcome to come and practice math facts, use the online REFLEX program, or get help with math assignments!
