Hello, Brockbank Families!

I hope you all enjoyed the weekend! It was a bit cold and snowy, but it is always nice to have a day to spend with family!

Brockbank Birthday

We are excited to celebrate Brockbank's Birthday! The 6th Grade Spirit Committee has planned some fun activities for next week!

*Monday, 1/28-1950s Day! Dress as if you lived in 1959, when Brockbank opened its doors for the first year.

*Tuesday, 1/29-100th Day of School! We are dressing as if we are 100 years old!

*Wednesday, 1/30-Crazy Hair Day! Because...we are crazy about Brockbank!

*Thursday, 1/31-Crazy Clothes Day! Dress up in crazy clothes, because we are STILL crazy about Brockbank!

*Friday, 2/1-Spirit Day! We want to support Brockbank by wearing our Spirit colors or our Spirit shirts!

Attachments

Parents, please take the time to look at a few attachment/flyers for opportunities for your child that will be coming in a different email. There is a Symposium for Gifted and Talented Children; Information about the District Chess Tournament; and a Bright Ideas Class for students.

Safety-WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Parents, we are getting more and more people not following the procedures during pick-up after school. We need you to do the following:

*If you pick up your child, please wait in the appropriate pick-up designated places. Do not park your car and get out as we want the flow of traffic to continue.

*Whether in the morning or after school, DO NOT PARK IN THE BUS LANE. It is actually illegal to park in the lane whether there are buses there or not.

*If you pull into the parking lot, you NEED to park your car IN A STALL and get out of your car and walk into the school building and get your child.

*If you are walking your child across the street you absolutely NEED TO USE THE INTERSECTIONS!

*Please be patient with other drivers. We have many students that need to get to buses and need to get on their way home. Please drive slowly and help each other out!

*Please talk to your child about using intersections when he/she leaves the school. We are having reports of students running out in the roads and across streets beyond school property.

*If you are having others pick up your child, that may not know these procedures, please share them with those people. Don't leave them in a bind wondering where they should go.

I also want to let you know that we had a fire drill last week. Just as a reminder, each month our school performs certain safety drills so that we can help our students be prepared if there were ever to be a need for a real evacuation.

Benchmarks and DIBELS Assessments

This month our students will be having 2 different types of reading assessments. All of our students will have a benchmark reading assessment and our students in grades 1-3 will have the DIBELS Assessment. Both of these tests will help us in monitoring the growth of your child in literacy. Please make sure you contact with your child’s teacher if your child will be absent.

PTA

Our next PTA Meeting will be January 29th at 2:00.

Math Lab

Parents, in the mornings at 8:30, we have two wonderful ladies that are here to tutor students in math! If you feel your child could use extra help with homework, please send him/her in the mornings to our math lab, located in the library!

Unplug and Connect-How Electronics Impact the Human Brain

Parents, I want to let you know about a special presentation by Dr. Christy Kane, that will be held several times, throughout our district. Dr. Kane has done research on the neurological changes that take place in the developing brain due to the impact of electronics. I have heard Dr. Kane speak a couple of times and she is awesome! Her research is amazing and there is definitely information parents should be aware of. If you have time to go to one of these sessions, it will be well worth your time.
